Lara Scheibling, M.Ed.

Lara Scheibling is an experienced educator and inclusive educational specialist with 16 years of teaching experience in the Halifax school system. Her journey into specialized educational assessment began when she observed firsthand how the right intervention strategies—based on a clear understanding of learning patterns—could transform a struggling student's educational experience.

As a resource and literacy intervention teacher, Lara worked with hundreds of students with diverse learning needs, developing a keen eye for identifying specific learning patterns and effective intervention strategies. Frustrated by long waitlists for school-based assessments and seeing families struggle without answers, she recognized the need for accessible, educator-led assessment services.

Lara holds education licenses in both Nova Scotia and California, bringing a broad perspective to her educational approach. Her specialized training in educational assessment and intervention allows her to bridge the gap between identifying learning challenges and implementing effective solutions.

Today, through Hemford Assessments, Lara is dedicated to providing Nova Scotia families with timely, affordable access to educational insights that can transform their children's learning experiences.

Our Story

Hemford Assessments was born from a genuine need I observed during my years teaching in Halifax classrooms.

As an educator, I repeatedly saw bright, capable students struggling with specific academic tasks despite their obvious intelligence and effort. Too often, these students and their families waited months—even years—for formal assessment, all while falling further behind and losing confidence in their abilities.

When assessments were finally completed, the reports were often filled with technical jargon that left parents and teachers unsure about practical next steps. The gap between identifying challenges and implementing effective solutions remained frustratingly wide.

I created Hemford Assessments to bridge this gap—to provide families with timely access to educational insights and, most importantly, practical strategies that actually work in real classrooms and at kitchen tables during homework time. Our approach combines elements of Halifax educational methodology with the forward-thinking approach we bring to understanding learning differences. It represents our commitment to both educational tradition and innovative assessment practices.

Our mission is simple: to help children understand how they learn best and to equip the adults in their lives with the strategies to support their educational journey effectively.
